Dental and Vision Care Discount Plan

New for this year! All students enrolled in the University student health care plan automatically receive the UnitedHealth Allies Discount Card at no additional cost. This is not dental or vision insurance, but rather a discount plan that can be used at certain dental and vision care providers in the South Bend area. For dental care, students can save from 10% to 35% on a range of dental services including routine cleaning, x-rays, even cosmetic dentistry, such as teeth whitening. For vision care, students will pay no more than $40 for an annual eye exam and save 10% to 20% on eyeglasses and fittings for contact lenses from participating eye care professionals and retail vision chains. The discount card also saves students money on wellness products and services with discounts of 10% to 50% on weight management, fitness membership and equipment, relaxation resources, massages, natural products, and vitamins and supplements. To view a list of providers in the South Bend area participating in the discount plan, go to http://www.sr.unitedhealthallies.com/.

Vaccines

Some vaccines are not covered by the University Health Insurance. The St. Joe County Health Department (SJCHD) offers vaccines at a cost typically lower than that offered by non-public health providers given that they are subsidized by the state government. For example, the SJCHD offers the tetanus vaccine for $8. The phone number for making an appointment is 235-9766.

Healthy Indiana Plan

The Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) is a new, affordable health insurance program for uninsured adult Hoosiers (ages 18-64). The program is sponsored by the State and only requires minimal monthly contributions from the participant. HIP offers full health benefits including hospital services, mental health care, physician services, prescriptions, diagnostic exams and disease management. A minimum of $500 in preventive services are free. HIP does not cover pregnancy services, as those services are offered under the Hoosier Healthwise program (HHW), nor does this program cover vision and dental services. For more information, call 1-877-GET-HIP-9 (toll free) or click here.

Health Task Forces

  • Secret Sisters is a local women's task force comprised of women cancer survivors.
