Choosing to purchase at local stores can give your money three times more of an economic impact than buying from a chain retailer. Buying local keeps money in circulation; chains tend to circulate only payroll and sales taxes and send the rest of the revenue out of state. A new South Bend-based organization, Sholo (which stands for Shop Locally), wants to raise awareness about the economic impact of purchasing local products. For more information and a list of Sholo's participating stores, please visit www.sholo.org.
